I am a British freelance translator with more than 5 years of experience translating from French and Italian into English (UK).
During my Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages (University of Edinburgh) I spent a year teaching English in France and upon completing my studies, in 2010, I moved to Italy.
This means that I have in-depth cultural knowledge that I can apply to your texts to make them more appealing to foreign clients.
“Ms Biagi is an accurate and reliable translator: she has shown great commitment to the project, delivered quality work that requires nothing but minor editing, and never missed a deadline.”
Annalisa Merelli, Italian Country and Language editor for Global Voices Online
“Since she joined my team I have been much impressed by her work. She is reliable and thorough, and it is obvious that she takes the trouble to check or query any doubtful items. We often work to quite a tight schedule, and Mirella always sends work back well in advance of any deadline.”
Gillian Forlivesi Heywood, English Language Coordinator for the International Choral Bulletin
“Great communication and punctuality! It is great working with you, Mirella! Thank you!"
Ina Ropotica, Project Manager at Intertrados
“Mirella dedicates herself completely to whatever she is doing, has great patience and is very practical. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone wanting a translation in English.”
Kristin Sharpe, Campus Manager at ESE London
Sharing my passion for languages has always been my favourite pastime. I love teaching English in my spare time and doing so helps me to stay up to date with what is happening in the English-speaking world, thus keeping my translations abreast with the times.
Before I could even finish my dissertation, I already had my first paying clients! Since 2013 I have dedicated myself to working as a freelance translator with professionalism and commitment, paying careful attention to the needs of the customer. Up to now I have translated a wide variety of texts: from apps for children to philosophical texts, from marketing material to product descriptions.
The early bird catches the worm! While I was studying for my MA in Translation Studies I started getting experience by doing pro-bono translations for IFCM (International Federation for Choral Music) and Global Voices.
In the 2012-2013 academic year I started and completed an MA in Translation Studies at the University of Bristol. The entire MA programme was distance learning allowing me not only to gain the necessary skills to translate but also to learn how to manage my work independently. The MA also allowed me to study CAT tools (software used by translators) and the business side of translations.
I managed an admissions and marketing office of the European School of Economics for two years. I learned about content management and how to create compelling content to sell courses - skills that have come in useful many times when translating. It was at the European School of Economics that I discovered my passion for translating and it was here that I took my first steps in this field translating marketing material and also philosophical texts for the President of the school from French and Italian into English.
After graduating I decided to move to Italy to improve my cultural knowledge of this country. I fell in love with the bel paese and ended up staying here!
While studying for my final exams and doing my dissertation, I attended a 110-hour course organised by TEFL Scotland for teachers of English as a foreign language. I specialised in “English for Young Learners".
As part of my degree, I did a 3-month internship with an Italian newspaper. I wrote articles in Italian, took care of the general administration of the office and translated articles from English into Italian. This helped me to perfect my Italian.
During the third year of my degree I spent a year in France teaching English. I perfected my French and gained work experience in the education sector.
I completed an MA (Hons.) in French and Italian at the University of Edinburgh graduating First Class with Oral Distinction in both languages. I also followed took in Portuguese, linguistics, culture and literature.
